Nimesulide and its antipyretic properties

Nimesulide is a relatively COX-2 selective, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. 
NImesulide shows multifactorial mode of action for the treatment of for post-traumatic inflammation, acute musculoskeletal disorders including sprains, strains, tendinitis, tenosynovitis, low back pain, periarthritis (shoulder pain) and osteoarthritis (joint pains), stiffness.
The drug is developed by Helsinn Healthcare. Medicines containing Nimesulide are on the market since 1985 and are authorised in a number of Member States.
Its multifactorial mode of action gives it a unique and broad action on inflammatory processes.
Nimesulide is available in the form of tablets (100 mg), granules for oral suspension (100 mg), suppositories (200 mg) and gel (3%).

The maximum duration and dose of a treatment course with Nimesulide is 15 days, 100 mg twice a day, to minimize the risk of hepatotoxicity.
